New equipment
Last year November 2017 we were grateful to have included a second Motomed Viva to the equipment assortments in our exercise facility in Colon. It was greatly accepted but we didn’t stop there. Starting 2018 we have added more new equipment, The Physio Trainer Portable Upper Body Ergometer. Since the beginning people like the handcycle that we had and one of the challenges was that sometimes people had to wait to get on the handcycle. Sometimes even leaving without using it.
Therefore with the help of Rotary Curacao we managed to purchase not only the Physio Trainer Portable Upper Body Ergometer but also Active hands gripping aids and weight discs. So now more people can exercise on more equipment without having to wait.
Physio Trainer UBE
The PhysioTrainer UBE is the most affordable of any Bi-Directional Upper Body Ergometers available in the marketplace. Its heavy construction and unique design make it a perfect choice for either a clinic or home setting. It is designed to be used on either a table top or on the floor as a leg exerciser but in this case since most of our members use their ams we have positioned it on a table top. It also has an easy to read display that is self-powered. The display panel has a tilt feature that allows the user to clearly see the readouts. The display shows your current speed (mph or kph), distance, calories burned, elapsed time and scan mode.
Handcycling is considered a great way to exercise your arms. It improves Core Strength and Stability and is also an Alternative Strength Training.
We always believe that exercise is important for people in wheelchair. In Fact everyone needs exercise. But it can be hard for people who use wheelchairs to get exercise in traditional ways. This can cause them to become unhealthy, gain weight, and experience depression. But handcycling can help with all of that and even more:
The Benefits
- Improved Cardiovascular Fitness
- Increased Endurance
- Faster Recovery Rate
- Stronger Heart Muscle
- Muscle Gain
- Improved Core Strength
- Increased Arm Strength
- Improved Coordination
- A Physical and Mental Challenge
This is a good way to start 2018 and as we get more support we add more value to the disabled community through exercise.
