The milestone edition of Curaçao’s most inclusive fitness event proved once again that perseverance fuels progress.

Willemstad, Curaçao — The 10th edition of The Annual Fitness Challenge, hosted by Fundashon Alton Paas, was more than a celebration — it was a living symbol of inclusion, resilience, and community spirit. Held on May 18th, the milestone event brought together participants of all abilities, demonstrating that strength is not about finishing first, but about showing up — again and again.

Among the most moving moments of the day was a 70-year-old woman who powered through the spinning session with infectious joy, and a young boy in a wheelchair who tackled the obstacle course on his hands — inspiring everyone around him.

This year introduced the Kids Power Zone, a new area filled with fun, movement, and determination. The course — laid out in collaboration with Defensie Curaçao — kept the kids coming back for more, with one child finishing the day covered head to toe in the joyful dirt of participation. Even adults couldn’t resist joining in!

The Foundation also independently organized the community walk this year, previously managed by another partner. Thanks to clear planning and dedicated volunteers — including support from corporate teams — the transition was a success.

Although participation and ticket sales were lower than previous years, the emotional impact remained immense. One attendee shared, “This event should happen more than once a year — the inclusion and variety is beautiful to experience.”

Key collaborators and sponsors made the day possible, including Burnard Gym, Training Bike Curaçao, International School of Curaçao, JD Transport, and companies like Banco di Caribe and Orco Bank. Influential public figures such as Miss Curaçao Universe 2023 Bianty Gomperts, TV host Charifa Janga, and news anchor Dianitsa Genaro also joined the movement, amplifying the message of inclusion.

As Fundashon Alton Paas looks ahead, the milestone serves as a reminder that the work continues. “We are each the best example of inclusion,” shared founder Alton Paas during the opening speech. “Let’s be the ones who bring that message into our homes, our schools, and our workplaces.”

The 10th Annual Fitness Challenge may be over, but its message lives on: inclusion isn’t just a theme — it’s a movement. And it’s one that Curaçao is proudly leading.
