Curaçao Medical Center’s Neuro Department Learns About Local Support for People with Spinal Cord Injuries

Willemstad, Curaçao – October 1, 2025 – Nurses from the Neurology and Nephrology Department of the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) participated in an informative session titled “Introduction to Fundashon Alton Paas.” The session, organized by Fundashon Alton Paas, aimed to raise awareness among medical professionals about the services and resources available for individuals with spinal cord injuries and other neurological conditions after leaving the hospital.

Led by Fundashon Alon Paas’s director Alton Paas, accompanied by two representative, the one-hour PowerPoint presentation introduced the foundation’s mission, programs, and support network that help improve the quality of life for people living with disabilities.

During the session, the team shared insights into accessible transportation options, exercise possibilities, and downloadable disability resources, emphasizing the importance of ongoing support once patients return home. The presentation also highlighted how Fundashon Alon Paas serves people with spinal cord injuries and other neurological conditions through its post-rehabilitation care and inclusion initiatives.

The discussion sparked meaningful interactions between the nurses and Fundashon Alon Paas representatives. Participants expressed curiosity about available aftercare services and were surprised to learn that an easier & affordable accessible transportation in Curaçao extends beyond medical appointments — including social and recreational outings. The topic of driving again after injury also generated interest, as nurses shared that patients frequently ask about the possibility of returning to independent mobility.

A key realization shared by several attendees was the need to bridge the gap between hospital treatment and community reintegration. Nurses recognized that while recovery continues after discharge, many patients face challenges such as isolation or lack of information about available services.

The session concluded with mutual enthusiasm for continued collaboration. The CMC nurses expressed interest in organizing follow-up sessions for other colleagues and in learning how to better guide patients toward the support Fundashon Alton Paas provides.
