The campaign to empower active participation of people with disability in our community
Willemstad, On Tuesday 21st of Janury 2025 Fundashon Alton Paas celebrated a groundbreaking milestone with the launch of “Access for All: Mobility and Inclusion in Curaçao”, a transformative initiative aimed at empowering persons with reduced mobility and promoting a more inclusive society. Supported by the Representation of the Netherlands, the event brought together key stakeholders, partners and community members to showcase innovation and collaboration in action.
Fundashon Alton Paas is a social organization in Curaçao that is committed to inclusion and improving the quality of life of people with spinal cord injuries and other neurological disabilities. The foundation offers this group access to mobility services and awareness campaigns, among other things, with which they can actively participate in society. This mission is closely linked to strengthening the resilience, livelihood security and self-reliance of vulnerable citizens.
In this context on Tuesday 21st of January 2025, Fundashon Alton Paas has launched the project “Access for all: Mobility and Inclusion in Curaçao“. Central to the launch is the unveiling of Curaçao’s first electrically accessible vehicle, a symbol of sustainable and inclusive progress. This achievement was made possible thanks to generous contributions from various donors, in particular Rotary Willemstad, whose Rota-Fun(d)rive campaign raised significant funds to cover the costs of the vehicle.
Another highlight is the introduction of the rebranding of the Wheelee, which now has a modern logo, vibrant colors and new uniforms. This refreshed image reflects Wheelee’s commitment to freedom and inclusion, emphasizing its role as an essential service that connects individuals with opportunities to actively participate in society.
The event also marks the introduction of the Mobility Awareness Campaign, the main focus of the project Access for all. Through storytelling, the campaign highlights the transformative impact of mobility and inclusion, sharing personal stories of how accessible transportation empowers people with disabilities to live independent lives and connect with their communities. The overarching goal of the campaign is to inspire social change and demonstrate the importance of creating an inclusive society for all.
Additionally, the campaign includes partnerships with ten local businesses. Four of them offer exclusive discounts to people with disabilities who use Wheelee to visit their locations. These collaborations highlight the collective effort needed to break down barriers and promote inclusion in Curaçao.
Alton Paas, Founder of Fundashon Alton Paas, noted: “Today is not just about innovation, but also about empowerment and community. With Wheelee’s new brand and the support of our partners, we are building a future where mobility is no longer a privilege, but an equal right for everyone in Curaçao.”
The launch of “Access for All” is in line with Wheelee 2.0’s vision to lower the barrier of accessible transportation.
